COMMENTS:
Vitex, also known as Chaste Tree is a perennial deciduous shrub to small tree. You will want to plant this one in a showy place in your landscape for its beauty and aroma. Has long narrrow leaves, about 7 per leaflet, green on top, and gray green fuzzy undersides. Produces long spikes of lavender flowers, followed by berries which are used medicinally. Both the flowers and the leaves produce a rich aroma especially when stroked.
Uses: The berries of the Chaste Tree are used as a hormone balances for women. The seeds stimulate progesterone production making it useful for symtoms of menopause. Supports the health of the breasts, reestablishes normal menstruation and ovulation, helps restore estrogen-progesterone balance. Vitex has been used for, agalactia, breast pain, common cold, chill, colic, debility, depression, diminished libido, fibroid cyst, impotence, irregular ovulation, menopausal symptoms, menstrual disorders, menstrual disorders due to luteum insufficiency, mild dementia, muscle spasms, nervousness, PMS, rheumatism, stomachache, and ulcers. Not to be taken when pregnant.
Seed Dosage: Infuse 1 teaspoon seed/berries in 1 cup boiling water; cover, let stand for 15 minutes. Strain and drink 1 to 3 cups a day.
