COMMENTS:
This half hardy perennial has rooting stems, aromatic hairy leaves, and white to mauve flowers producing knotlike seed clusters.
Uses: Sweet Marjoram leaves have a sweeter, spicier taste than the leaves of oregano. It is a popular culinary herb used in salads, sauces, cheese, and in liquers. As an aromatic tea, Marjoram aids digestion, relieves flatulence, colds, and headaches, soothes nerves, and encourages menstruation. The leaves are enjoyed in scented sachets and sweet waters, and were once rubbed on oak floors as a fragrant polish. Marjoram essential oil, distilled from the leaves and flowering tops, is anti-oxidant, reducing skin aging. It is also antiviral, eases spasms, and stimulates local circulation. The oil is added to perfumes and cosmetics.
Digestive Aid: Is a antispasmodic and so may help with soothing the digestive tract and preventing motion sickness.
Women's health:The antispasmodic action of Marjoram can help soothe all muscles and may help with menstrual cramps.
Herpes: Marjoram inhibits the growth of the virus that causes genital herpes and cold sores. Sprinkle the dry powdered herb on infected area.
Dosage: To bring on menstruation and releive digestive problems use 1-2 teaspoons dried herbage and flowers to 1 cup of boiling water. Steep for 10 minutes and drink up to 3 cups per day.
